Fire stopping of service penetrations through fire compartment walls & floors is an integral part of the fire safety strategy of each and every building. The Fire Services Act 1981 and the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 makes it abundantly clear that it is the responsibility of owners and managers of buildings to ensure the fire safety of their buildings. It is a life safety issue that cannot be ignored.
For designers, contractors and owners of buildings, compliance with these regulations is a challenge. Modern buildings are expected to include air-conditioning systems, communications networks, as well as high-specification electrical installations. Of necessity, cables, pipes and air-handling ducts must pass through fire compartment walls and floors as they travel unseen above ceilings, below floors, in service risers and plant rooms. It is a requirement of both the Building Regulations and Health and Safety Legislation that the integrity of the fire compartments is maintained. This can only be ensured by effective fire stopping systems that are properly installed, maintained and upgraded when necessary.

UniStop Service
At Unistop, we provide the full range of passive fire protection services required to ensure that compliance with the statutory regulations is achieved and all structural fire retardation systems are correctly in place:
- Risk Assessment and Inspection: Our assessment will incorporate a comprehensive review of the integrity of fire compartments, including installed fire stopping systems.
- Follow-through Process Schedule: A survey generally takes the form of a fault-finding report, merely listing a series of issues that need to be addressed, and is of limited assistance. At UniStop, we provide a schedule giving the location and nature of the work that needs to be done, a system specification and an accurate costing. Building management are therefore equipped with clear data in order to assess process and plan effectively.
- Re-instatement: Our experienced staff will re-instate and if necessary upgrade existing fire-stopping systems.
Above all, we understand that the needs of each of our clients are individual and we would be pleased to visit your premises to help evaluate your requirements and provide a quotation for our services.
